The value of teamwork and the courage to do things differently have been touted as two of the reasons Pilbara Kimberley University Centres have been named winners at the WA Community Achievement Awards.

The awards celebrate, recognise, and encourage individuals, communities, and businesses contributing to regional WA and bettering its communities.

Karratha Study Hub chief executive Susan Grylls accepted the award on behalf of PKUC. She said they were proud of the win that recognised the hard work of the Pilbara and Kimberley communities.

“It’s an incredible honourto receive this award, but the real achievement belongs to the Pilbara and Kimberley communities who prove everyday that distance and remoteness breeds determination, innovation and connection,” she said.

“Building a stronger northern Western Australia takes vision, teamwork and the courage to do things differently. This recognition is not just for me, but for everyone committed to shaping our region’s future.”

The team brought home the Rinehart development of northern regional WA
award.

The not-for-profit organisation says it has supported more than 2000 students in study hubs in Karratha, Port Hedland, Onslow, Tom Price, Broome and Kununurra allowing them to remain close to family, community and culture since opening in 2020.

PKUC delivers tailored programs in nursing, education, engineering and Aboriginal leadership. It says that through mentoring, scholarships, and community-led initiatives, they are developing skilled professionals and retaining them in the North West.
