Sculpture by the sea launches
Perth artist Johannes Pannekoek was announced as the recipient of the $30,000 Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill sculpture award for his artwork Lifeblood. The sculpture wa draws inspiration from the tEarth’s winding rivers and serpentine shapes, encouraging people to reflect on the protection of the lifeblood of our planet’s ecosystems.

‘Greatest Australian woman’: Ian Plimer praises Gina Rinehart
Geologist Ian Plimer has praised mining billionaire Gina Rinehart, saying she “doesn’t get enough credit” in Australia. Mr Plimer told Sky News Australia that Ms Rinehart is “the greatest Australian woman” the country has ever produced. “She did it herself, she didn’t inherit anything,” she said. “She’s built a huge private company, the biggest private company in Australia. “She should be honoured for employing so many people and for paying such a huge amount of tax.”

Big miner lauds WA reforms after premier cooks greenies
West Australian Premier Roger Cook says his government will continue to help fund the Environmental Defenders Office despite his veiled swipe at the organisation and green groups for dividing Aboriginal communities to block major projects. The mining and resources industry, including Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting, welcomed the Cook government’s proposed overhaul of environmental approvals on Wednesday, which the premier launched a day earlier along with his broadside at green groups.

Regulatory war via red tape on resources
Shadow resources minister Susan McDonald has accused the Federal Government of a “regulatory war” on oil and gas as red tape drags on more than $20 billion of investment. Writing in The West Australian on Wednesday, the Queensland Liberal-National senator claimed the Government was sacrificing the oil and gas industry — the State’s second-biggest exporter — to win green votes in Sydney.
